 BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER

Classification: Full Time

Salary Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Maintenance and Facilities

  

Job Summary:

  • Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance and Facilities, the Building Maintenance Worker will perform responsible semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of Prowers county facilities and grounds. This work will include the operation of electrically-powered and gasoline-powered equipment and machinery as well as the use of small hand and power tools and equipment. 

 

Objective:

  • Prowers County facilities are located throughout the county and consist of over 17 structures. Many of these facilities are historical and are a staple to Prowers County. The Building Maintenance Technicians are responsible for day-to-day care and maintenance of all county owned facilities and properties.

 

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic construction and repair work to building facilities and equipment using a variety of tools.
  • Execute daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of buildings, and structures to determine cleanliness.
  • Perform custodial services following established procedures and guidelines in buildings, offices, restrooms, etc. including the furnishings.
  • Safely operate a variety of motorized and powered equipment and vehicles including pick-up trucks, tractors, sweepers, etc.
  • Safely work with groundskeeping machinery such as riding and push mowers, edging tools, and hand tools.
  • Remove trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds and buildings.
  • Ensure sidewalks adjacent to County facilities are kept free of debris, snow, and ice.
  • Execute inspections of equipment and tools to determine proper functionality.
  • Prepare buildings and grounds for use by visitors, vendors, and the public as needed by County operations.
  • Maintain daily logs of tasks performed including preventative and unscheduled maintenance.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Valid state of Colorado driver’s license required
  • Experience in building maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial work is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to perform hands-on maintenance and groundskeeping tasks
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Some working knowledge of email, document preparation software, and scheduling software
  • Ability to accurately complete and maintain maintenance records
  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written forms
  • Ability to work independently on assignments
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, fingerprint, and background check if required
  • Basic knowledge of building mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry 50 lbs. 
  • Requires the ability to push and pull 100lbs frequently
  • Requires frequent: bending, squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling, and walking  

 

Availability/Accessibility:

  • This position requires the employee to remain available via mobile device/email access during and after normally scheduled business hours

 

Other Necessary Requirements:

  • In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County Employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Administrator, Elected/Appointed Officials, and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County Functions. This could mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond normal required work hours.
